Second of all, I was playing Oblivion on PC for a month (love dem 'ol gamez) and to play with controller I needed third-party stuff. So I created an www.rewasd.com, and it saved my day.
As this thread is older than ((ummm)) my Blizzard account, I don't expect a lot of emotions, but I really hope this will help out some wanderer! It's more comfortable for you because you have been using it for a long time. Trust me I used to hate aiming with a mouse or using a keyboard in PC games because I was so used to a controller. However, I have learned that the mouse makes moving the camera much smoother than a joystick and keyboards allow access to controls you might not even knew existed on console versions of games such as hotkeys, quicksaves, lean etc.
Plus you can change any of the controls to your liking. Just try using mouse and keyboard more often and you to will find it's far superior to a gamepad. I had used keyboard and mouse for years, and I can sure tell I preffer controller, I can aim much better with it than the mouse, and you're right about the keyboard access, but (this only happens with me I guess) If I have more buttons than fingers to press, I have to look down to the keyboard, and that is just enough time to get myself killed up in the screen. Thing that doesn't hapen with a controller. I have used both keyboards-mice and controllers and yes for certain games mouse and keyboard are far superior, however for some games such as borderlands and gta iv which have an i'll admit weak rpg element, controls that are much better suited for gamepads.
Though I admit sniping is FAR more easy with a mouse then joystick. I have also come across programs that allow you to program in a controller if it is unsupported albeit with hit or miss results.
Think its called motion in joy or something or xpadder if you really want to try it. And good luck -plans like this get people killed: Faye Valentine.
